Welcome to the website of the Optimists Club, Jersey
The Optimists Club, Jersey is a members only sports and social club. Founded in 1963, the club has been based at 19 Oxford Road, St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands since 1975.
The Club currently runs two league crib teams, a golf society, a pool team, a battle of flowers section and a thrift club. It also holds various social activities throughout the year and has recently launched a new al fresco area for summertime drinking.
The clubroom at 19 Oxford Road is open from 9pm until 1am on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays and from 11am until 1pm on Sundays for Club members and their guests. A guest book is held behind the bar for Club members to sign in their guests.

Congratulations to Roger Pugsley on completing 30 years as president of the club. A big thank you to all past and present club members who attended the Vin D'Honneur in Roger's honour. A great night was had by all. Good luck to our new president, Andrew Bouchard.
The club will be having a Christmassy evening on Friday 10th December with mince pies and mulled wine on offer as well as the thrift club payout.

01.09.2011- Announcements
Battle is over for another year! Well done to everyone who was involved. This year's float "Wild Wild West" was awarded the Prix D'Excellence, Clubs and Associations, Class 11 and Moonlight Parade Carnival Atmosphere awards. What a great result! Check out the Battle of Flowers tab for photos!

The 2011 Battle of Flowers in less than one week away so it's all hands on deck down at Meadowbank. The Club's entry this year, entitled "Wild Wild West" is a western extravaganza not to be missed with cowboys and saloon girls galore! Good luck to all the team for next week's parade.
The club will be holding an al fresco and bbq evening on Friday 19th August. The club will be open from 5.30pm and there will be hotdogs and burgers available to purchase. No tickets are required for this, just come along on the evening.

08.07.2011- Announcements
The Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 28th June. The meeting saw the end of an era with Roger Pugsley stepping down as President after 30 years. The committee presented with an engraved tankard to say thank you for all his hard work over the last 30 years.
The Committee for 2011-2012 was elected as follows:

Committee Members: Neil Pugsley, Lisa Pugsley, Craig Vibert, Richard Bouchard and Marje Audoire.

Subscriptions: Please note that 2011-2012 subs are now due. It was voted at the AGM that the subs will remain the same as last year, £30 for
adults and £7.50 for juniors/overseas.
In an effort to attract new members to the club, the committee have decided to run a promotional offer between now and the end of September. Any member introducing a brand new member will get their membership for the half price sum of £15 (or a 50% refund if already paid £30). In addition the new member will also get their first years subs at half price*. This is a great club and the committee are looking to get more people to enjoy not only the refurbished clubroom but also the numerous activities the club run.

- offer only applies to full adult membership, not junior/overseas;
- the new member must not have previously been a member of the Optimists Club;
- the current member will only get one 50% reduction, i.e. if you introduce 2 new members you will only get £15 off your membership,
not £30. Please do feel free to introduce more than one new member!;
A charity quiz night is being held at the club on Saturday 23rd July. Teams of up to 6 are welcome to enter. Tickets are priced at £10 per person, to include food and there's a cash prize for the winning team. Proceeds are going to the Jersey Chesire Homes. Anyone wishing to enter should contact Craig Vibert or ask at the bar.
The Annual BBQ will be held from 5pm on Saturday 30th July at St Lawrence Football Club. Tickets are available from behind the bar, or by contacting any of the committee.

Congratulations to Andrew Bouchard who won Optimists of the Year at the Annual Dinner on Saturday 15th May. A well deserved award for a key member of the club. Thanks to all members who attended it was a great evening and the food was fantastic. Well done to all those who won awards and trophies.
The Optimists Club Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 28th June, 8pm in the club room. This is your chance to pose any questions you may have to the committee and raise any concerns you may have. Please make every effort to attend. The committee nomination form is now up so if you fancy helping to shape the future of your club, get your name down! The committee will be taking the opportunity to advise members of the outcomes from the questionnaires sent to all members in January.

Saturday 28th May- BBQ followed by Champions League Final, Manchester United V Barcelona on the big screen. If you'd like food, please either put your name on the board or email Andy Bouchard.
Sunday 29th May- Walkovers Cricket Club are having a BBQ on the new Al Fresco area after their Sunday afternoon match.Club opens at 6pm. All Optimists members welcome to attend.
Saturday 30th July- Optimists Annual BBQ. Place, price and time TBC.
The Summer Crib will start on Thursday 2nd June and continue on Thursday evenings through the Summer. Don't worry if you can't make the initial couple of weeks but if you would like to enter, please let Andy Bouchard know or put you name on the list at the club.

The club is looking for a cleaner for 1-2 hours per week. Pay will be reasonable so the committee wanted to offer the hours to a member in the first instance. If you're interested please contact Andy Bouchard.
Finally, the club now has the ability to broadcast information to members via text message. If you would like to be kept informed of social events via text message please contact Andy Bouchard.

Congratulations to Trevor L'Enfant who won the Wii night on the 26th February. Thank you to all who attended, a good night was had by all.

Work has begun on this year's float design. Paul has requested that as many people as possible attend Meadowbank this Saturday morning, 19th March, as this year's design requires the commitment from everyone who wants to be involved, otherwise a smaller design will have to be considered.
